Why we need you

Caroline Lucas - Green Party Leader

" The election of the first ever Green MP represents a truly historic moment. We made our breakthrough with the backing of people like you who want a new kind of politics based on honesty, justice and fairness.... now every new member who joins us will give us a stronger voice in Parliament..."

Caroline Lucas MP, Green Party Leader

Our support network

We depend on the support of our members for all the work we do - we don't get donations from big corporates and unions like other parties.

The financial support provided through membership is what keeps us going. It makes our campaigns and direct action for social and environmental justice possible.

Our achievements

Our members across the country are already making a real difference on a local level - we've listed some of the achievements of Green Councillors below - we hope they will inspire you to join us. They show the positive effects of the Green Party and that, together, we can make a difference.

  • We set up solar panels on public buildings in Kirklees, and on primary schools in Lewisham.
  • In Brighton we've helped to set up community centres, with activities for local residents and services for older people.
  • Greens secured an NHS dentist for Stowmarket in Suffolk after the existing dental practise left the NHS.
  • In Leicester we secured free school dinners and increased the budget for playgrounds in Oxford.
  • We set up a budget of £3 million to improve road safety in Kirklees and established a preferential parking scheme for low emission vehicles.
  • Green councillors fought successfully for more affordable housing to be built in Mid Suffolk

  • In Bradford councillors secured £300,000 to fund free cavity wall and loft insulation for older residents

  • In Brighton councillors blocked a 10% licensing fee increase for street traders and farmers markets.

  • Greens in Islington set up a programme of new apprenticeships.
  • In Lewisham and Norwich, councillors successfully campaigned for a living wage to help tackle poverty.
  • Greens pushed for apprenticeships and training schemes to be included in all council construction contracts in Brighton, it is now standard practice.

Together we are a powerful force for change.
